Hi, I’m Jane.
Welcome.
I am a BACP Registered Counsellor with a BA Hons in Integrative Counselling.
I offer online and in-person counselling sessions and would love to hear from you if you have more questions.
I offer a free 20 minute telephone consultation to explore what you’d like to work on, and to get to know me a little more.
For in-person sessions, I use a disabled accessible counselling space in Newlyn, near Penzance.
My Approach
My approach begins with a person-centred foundation and focuses on reflecting on your feelings and experiences. With the client at the heart of the work, each person’s story is witnessed and validated.
My aim is to create a safe, boundaried therapy environment to best fit each unique client.
Integrative
This term refers to a counselling approach which integrates a number of different ways of understanding and talking about the human experience.
I favour:
Polyvagal Theory - an evolutionary perspective of how our nervous systems respond to threat, and how we can support ourselves with this understanding.
Internal Family Systems - which can offer a creative way to consider the parts of our personality.
Foundational Narrative Therapy - can help to make sense of our early stories and how we view the world. - for those big life questions when events make us question everything.
Neurobiology - can be a useful perspective to consider the mind/body connection and how we function in the world on various levels.
Existential Therapy - for those big life questions when events make us question everything.
Through exploring your experiences, we can use these helpful models to work with different parts of your story, which can offer new understanding, perspectives and tools for growth.
Being able to be flexible and draw on a variety of models allows me to work with a range of issues from anxiety, depression, infertility, bereavement, addiction, chronic health conditions, ADHD and other learning difficulties, relationship issues and traumatic experiences. Please see below is a longer list of issue descriptions which is not definitive, as it is intended more as a general guide of common themes which can occur for people.
Under ‘Therapies Offered’ below, there’s a list of approaches I’m informed in.
Non-Judgemental
Lastly, I’d like to say I endeavour to build a therapeutic relationship with safe boundaries where our work together is guided by your best interests and your stated goals, or focus. The space offered is outside of the usual dynamic of other relationships where there are expectations and judgement on who are you. I meet clients with acceptance and compassion and aim to help grow the development of these attributes within you to counter your own inner critics. Within this safe space we can explore the histories of where this judgement may come from, and what function it serves, so that there is choice and a possibility of moving forward in a different way.

I’ve always been interested in what makes people tick. I began my ‘people’ career in youthwork. I really appreciated the opportunity to interact with a vibrant, interesting and entertaining age group. Working with teens ignited a passion to share knowledge about important subjects such as drugs, sexual health and mental health, so that these young people could make informed choices about what they wanted for themselves. This theme has continued for me where fulfilling a supportive role enabling exploration and promoting understanding set me on a counselling path, upskilling myself with a degree in integrative counselling skills along the way.
